There’s something truly exhilarating about stepping back into the world of equestrian sports after a long hiatus. As I made my way to the AA-rated show, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. Little did I know that this experience would reignite my passion for riding, and I owe it all to my trusty companion, Sol.
Throughout the different stages of our equestrian journey, we encounter various emotions and perspectives. As a child, riding feels like an invincible pursuit, with no thought of the risks involved. However, as we grow older, fear starts to creep in, causing us to question our abilities. Eventually, we reach a point where we realize that if we don’t conquer our fears now, we may never do it. Some might even call this phase a “mid-life crisis” in the world of equestrianism.
Despite the trepidation that had settled in over the years, I felt an immense sense of pride as I made my return to the show ring. Equestrianism had been an integral part of my youth, and being back in that familiar environment brought a wave of nostalgia and joy. To my surprise, I encountered familiar faces, former riding partners who had become trainers, trainers who were still coaching, and dedicated grooms who were still taking care of the horses. The camaraderie and shared memories made the experience even more enjoyable.

In my first class back, with Sol as my steadfast partner, we showcased our skills and earned a remarkable achievement: a blue ribbon. The elation I felt cannot be adequately described in words. It was a validation of my dedication and hard work. Ultimately, we emerged as the Reserve Champion and NorCal Reserve Champion, marking a triumphant return to the competitive arena.
The thrill of the show ring proved irresistible. The adrenaline rush, the elegance of the horses, and the challenge of each jump fueled my desire to continue this journey. I found myself itching to participate in more shows, eager to experience the sense of accomplishment that comes from pushing myself and my equine partner to new heights.
Returning to the equestrian world after a prolonged absence was a momentous occasion. It reminded me of the ever-evolving nature of our equestrian journey, the courage required to overcome fears, and the joy that comes from pursuing a passion. My first show back was a testament to the hard work and support of my trusted horse, Sol, as well as the enduring connections I had made with fellow riders. As I look forward to future competitions, I am filled with an invigorated sense of purpose and an unwavering commitment to this beautiful sport.
