horse laundry Liquid Recipe - use 1/2 to 1 cup per load

  • 400 g bar of shredded soap - I use ZOTE soap. However, you can also use Fels-Naptha, Dr. Bronner’s, or Kirk’s Castile Soap,

  • 1 cup Arm & Hammer® Super Washing Soda

  • 1 cup 20 Mule Team® Borax

Directions

  1. With a cheese-grater shred your bar of soap

  2. Put 1 gallon (16 cups) of water on the stove and when steaming hot (NOT boiling), add your shredded bar of soap and stir until dissolved. It will thicken and be somewhat coagulated.

  3. Add the 1 cup of 20 Mule Team® Borax and 1 cup of Arm & Hammer® Super Washing Soda to the large pot.

  4. Continue stirring the mixture until completely dissolved.

  5. Pour the mixture into a five-gallon bucket. Then add two more gallons of hot water to the bucket and stir very well until the combination is fulling blended.

  6. Stir the mixture occasionally as it cools. I let it sit overnight. In the morning, the mixture will be a gel-like consistency.

  7. Fill the rest of the bucket with hot water and mix well until a smooth consistency. I like to use an emersion blender. It does a great job of blending quickly.
